Focal Point Positioning (“FocalPoint”) is Cambridge and Bristol-based company working on improving GPS-tracking.

FocalPoint was founded in 2015 with an aim to create technology which can be used on vehicles, personal devices (eg. phones and watches), on autonomous platforms and in other tech.

The company was competing amongst thousands of others in one of Europe’s biggest tech startup awards, Europa Awards.

Big names such as Spotify, Transferwise, Soundcloud and Babylon Health are amongst those which won Europa Awards’ awards in the past.

This year’s event was hosted on Zoom. Hundreds of tech startup bosses took part in the video call, with TechCrunch’s editor, Mike Butcher, hosting the event and announcing winners who were voted for by the public and a panel of judges.

FocalPoint was named “hottest” tech startup of 2020, with the founder commenting the below:

This is a fantastic recognition of the hard work of the whole FocalPoint team and comes at an incredibly exciting time for the business.

We’re honoured to be added to such a formidable list of European Tech stars, and we look forward to the coming months.

We’re working full tilt on integration for our S-GPS software into commercial GPS chips and are putting a sports wearable demo through final testing. There’s lots to come.
